Friday, December 14th, marked the death of one of Garber's prominent residents, for many years past - Mrs. M. J. O'Connor.
Mary E. (Downey) O'Connor, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Downey, was born on the home farm in Garnavillo township, December 1, 1867, and thus she reached the age of sixty-one years, 13 days. September 20, 1898, she was united in marriage with Michael J. O'Connor at Garnavillo. She then moved, with her husband, to Garber, which has ever since been her home.
Deceased is survived by the bereaved husband, M. J. O'Connor, one son Verni and two daughters, Verna and Mrs. Evelyn Zittergruen, all of Garber; also two brothers, James of Garnavillo township and Thomas of San Francisco, Calif.
The funeral services took place last week Monday, with Father Goetzinger officiating. Interment was made in St. Joseph's cemetery at Garnavillo. Pall-bearers were six nephews, as follows: George, Harley, Mike, James, Elmer and Lawrence Downey.
The family has the sincere sympathy of all in their sad affliction. May she rest in peace.
