Clayton County Register, Thur., 27 Sept. 1928. Pg. 1.

Matilda Minnie Bente, one of the community's life-long residents passed away at her home in Mederville, on Sunday evening, Sept. 23, 1928, at the age 58 years, five months and 18 days.

Mrs. Bente, a daughter of John and Louise Voss, was born April 5th, 1870, in Cox Creek township. Her entire life was spent in and around Mederville.

On January 7th, 1892, she was united in marriage to Wm. G. Bente in Elkader, Iowa. To this union two children were born, Ella, now Mrs. Merritt Alderson, who lives on the home farm, and Macie, who preceded her mother in death on December 25th, 1907.

In 1909 Mr. and Mrs. Bente moved to Mederville, which place has been their home ever since.

Mrs. Bente always enjoyed good health until about six months ago when her health began to fail. She was taken to the Mayo Clinic at Rochester, Minn., to find out the cause of her ailment. While there she underwent an operation, on July 2nd, but this did not improve her condition, as had been hoped. Since her return home she has been gradually growing weaker, altho everything possible was done for her. Loved ones, with the assistance of a trained nurse, were ever ready to gratify any wish, and give tender, loving care, until her eyes closed in the last sleep.

She is survived by her husband, Wm. Bente, on daughter, Mrs. Merritt Alderson, two grandchildren, Verneita and Wilma Alderson, also one sister, Mrs. Ida Brinkhouse, all of Mederville. One sister, Mrs. Louise Olinger, of Littleport, preceded her in death in 1915.

Mrs. Bente was a member of the Evangelical church, the R.N.A. and the Yeoman.

She will be missed in the home and in the community. May she rest in peace. She is gone but not forgotten.

Funeral services were held at the home Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 26th, with Rev. C. H. Franke officiating and interment was made in the Mederville cemetery. The pall bearers were: Chas. Lange, Chris Wacker, Alf. Albrecht, Lloyd Kelley, Chas. Hackert and Mike McTaggert.
