On Monday afternoon the funeral of Miss Gertrude Harnack, who died at the Lutheran hospital at LaCrosse following an operation for goiter, was held in the St. Paul's church. Her death came as a shock to the entire community. The deceased was born March 25, 1912, as the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Harnack. she attended school at Garnavillo, staying with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Harnack during the school year. She had completed the tenth grade this spring. She was a member of the Girls 4-H Club and in June attended the short course at Ames with Marion Kregel and Marie Elizabeth Kaiser. Upon her return it was necessary for her to seek medical aid, and she was taken to the McGregor hospital. She was then taken to the LaCrosse hospital and operated upon Thursday. She regained consciousness for a short time and was able to converse with her parents, but on Friday she went into a state of coma and died July 20, at the age of sixteen years and four months. She leaves to mourn her death, her grief stricken parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Harnack and sister, Barbara, and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Harnack and Mrs. Larson, and numerous relatives and friends.
