Lorna Doone Petersen Kittleson, 92, died peacefully on Saturday, April 18, 2020.
She was born April 19, 1928 at Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea, Minnesota to Erie N. and Irene (Law) Petersen who farmed near Glenville, Minnesota. The family moved to a farm near Joice, Iowa in 1930. Lorna became a member of the Northwood Methodist Church. In 1945 they moved to Minneapolis where she graduated from Roosevelt High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in home economics education at the University of Minnesota.
On September 10, 1949 she married John Kittleson at Lake Nokomis Presbyterian Church in Minneapolis. They taught at LaCrosse, Wisconsin Vocational School and then moved to Rochester, Minnesota where daughter Mary was born.
In 1952 they came to Postville to enter the hardware business. Here daughter Christine, son Edward, and son David were born. David died in infancy in 1959.
She and John celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in September. She was a dedicated homemaker and volunteer, a skilled seamstress, and an avid reader. While she was not a performer, she appreciated music and theater. She was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monday Club, and P.E.O.
She was a loving, faithful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She was a blessing to everyone she knew, and she is remembered with deep love.
She is preceded in death by her parents, infant son David, daughter Christine, and brothers Delbert Petersen, Vaughn Petersen and William Petersen. She is survived by husband John, daughter Mary Anderson (John), son Edward Kittleson (Terri), son-in-law Michael Sandell, grandchildren, Ben Kittleson (Sarah), Anne Jeneary (Greg), Whitney Otto (Justin), Matthew Sandell, and five great grandchildren, Keylon, Quinn, Megan, Jacob, and Holt.
The family expresses gratitude to the staff at Good Samaritan Home, Pastor Lynn Noel, her neighbors at East Park Terrance Condos, and a host of friends and relatives. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville at a later date.
