James Connell, Sr., 65 years, eleven months and five days, a Clayton county citizen and resident of this vicinity throughout his life, passed away at St. Francis Hospital, Waterloo, Iowa, Thursday, Feb. 9th, 1928, at 4 o'clock.

James Connell, a son of Patrick and Sara Connell, was born in Read township, Clayton county, March 4th, 1863. On February 23, 1897, he was united in marriage to Miss Catherine Garaghty of this community. To this union were born seven children, Anna, Mrs. Gerald West, of Osage; Edward of Cedar Falls; Sara of Waterloo; James, John, Martin and Catherine at home, who with the widow are left to mourn his departure. One sister, Mrs. Mary Forn also survives.

Funeral services were held at St. Joseph's Catholic church Monday morning, Feb. 13th at 10:30 o'clock, Rev. James P. Taken officiating, and interment was made in St. Joseph's cemetery.

He was a devout Catholic and in his last hour was comforted by the rites of his religion. He was a member of the C.O.F. Court, No. 104.

Six nephews, James and Edward Fitzpatrick, Francis and Matt Foran, Dan Brennon and Lawrence Garaghty acted as pall-bearers.

Those from out of town attending the funeral were: Francis Foran of Estherville; Matt Foran of Dubuque; Mrs. Thomas Smith of Epworth; Mr. and Mrs. Mart Kennedy of Epworth; Mrs. James O'Meara, Farley; Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Brennon, Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Brennon, Mr. F. C. Kinnison and daughter Florence, of Waterloo; and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Foran of Strawberry Point.
