Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 07 Apr. 1910.

The remains of Ervin Schmidt, who died at Spokan, Wash., on March 29th arrived at Monona late Sunday morning, accompanied by Oscar Wolf. They arrived here Sunday morning.

The funeral occurred Sunday afternoon at 1:30 from the home of his father, Fred H. Schmidt, and the services were held at the German church, Rev. Franke preaching in German and English. there were many present, more than the church could hold, people being present from all parts of the county.

Ervin was the only son and eldest child of Mr. Schmidt and was born in Elkader August 7th, 1888. He graduated from the High School in the class of '95 and attended the University of Wisconsin and a business college at La Crosse.

About two years ago he went to Newport, and then to Spokane, where he was employed with the Spokane and Eastern Trust Co., occupying a responsible position. A letter from the Secretary of that company, given below, testifies to the young man's worth and ability. It was written to Mr. Schmidt.

The floral offerings were profuse and beautiful, especially those from the Trust Co. at Spokane, and from the Newport Land Co., of Newport, Wash.

The following graduates of our High School served as pall bearers: Oscar Wolf, Fred Leibrock, Carl Reinecke, Max Bishop, John O'Leary, Walter Dittmer, Harry Conrad and M. G. Hagensick.

(Note: The two letters mentioned were not transcribed as they contained no further genealogy info.)
