Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 03 Feb. 1910. Elkport and Vicinity column.

Once again we are called upon to chronicle the death of one who, but ten days ago, was strong and in good health, and whom we have now followed to the last resting place in Mt. Harmony cemetery. This time it was a wife and mother, Mrs. Minnie Thein, nee Jauert. Mrs. Thein was born in Germany Oct. 29th, 1860. She came to America with her parents when about eight years of age and lived near Elkader. She was married to Jos. Thein May 23rd, 1877. Twelve children blessed their home, all of whom are yet alive and attended the burial. They are as follows: Mrs. Marshal Hansel, of Greeley; Frank and George Thein, of Garber; Mrs. Ernest Winch, of Guttenberg; and Martin, Joe, Fred, Charley, Peter, Mary and little Pearl, who is but four years of age, at home with their father. It can truly be said of her that she was a good mother, a loving wife. The hands, which less than two weeks ago, laundered, mended and labored for the husband and children, now lie crossed upon the cold and lifeless bosom, at rest forever more. No more will you see her cheery smile, nor hear her loving voice which spoke soothing and comforting in times of sickness and trouble, nor yet hear her mirth and happy laugh when those she so loved chatted and conversed with her. She was a woman for home and family, and her greatest happiness she found in making everything as comfortable as possible. One great happiness, the realization of a new home, she thought lay in store for her, for the husband and sons had already hauled material for the construction of a new home, which was to have been built as soon as winter had passed. Instead of that she was called to the "Home made without hands eternal in the Heavens." Only last week Monday, the 24th inst., she was stricken with pneumonia, and in spite of physician's skill and tenderest care, the sickle cut the tender cord, and the soul took its flight to that rest which is not found on earth and on Saturday, January 29th, she died.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Linnenburger, who spoke words of comfort and consolation to the sorrowing ones, and touchingly remarked upon the faithful mother who will be so missed by the entire family. He spoke in both German and the English languages. Thence the funeral procession wended its way to the beautiful Mt. Harmony cemetery, where her coffin, strewn with flowers as tokens of love for the deceased, was slowly lowered into the grave, while the friends who had sung at the home sang "Oh ! think of the Home Over There," and at the last chorus of "In the Sweet Bye and Bye."

Our home is so empty, mother,
We miss you sadly, dear.
We know that your place can never
Be filled again, here
But over beautiful Jordan
We'll earnestly strive to roam
And meet, thee, wife and mother
In that heavenly home.

There are also left to mourn her untimely death her mother, Mrs. Mary Jauert, of Garber, besides six sisters and three brothers. Her father, Christ Jauert, died in 1901. Her six sons, Frank, Martin, George, Joe, Fred and Charles carried the coffin carefully and tenderly to where she will rest forever. Many relatives and friends came from other towns and surrounding country to attend the burial.
