Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 06 Jan. 1910. Local News columns.

Sophia Suckow was born February 21st, 1840, in Dietslieu, Germany, and died at her home near Elkport, Iowa, Dec. 30th, 1909.

She left Germany with her parents in April, 1857, arriving in America in June, 1857, and was married to Fred Koehn, of Elkport, June 15th of the same year. To them were born three children, John, of Luverne, Minn., Henry, of Elkader, Ia., and Mary, who died in infancy.

At the time of her marriage to Mr. Koehn, he had two children by a former wife, Wm. Koehn, of Elkport, and Gusta, Now Mrs. Chas. Winkstern, of Elkport, both of whom she raised as her own.

Mr. Koehn dying Feb. 23rd, 1862, she was again married April 13th, 1862, to Henry Musfelt, who still survives her. To this union two sons and seven daughters were born, four of the daughters having preceded their mother to their heavenly home, leaving the following to console the aged husband and father: Minnie Moran, of Elkader; Sophia Bushkofsky, of Garber; Wm. C., at the home farm; Malinda Cook, of Dubuque; Albert H., of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; and Mrs. Adolph Katschkowsky, a daughter of Mr. Musfelt, by a former marriage. Besides those named the departed is mourned by 21 grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Fred Waterman, of Elkport, and Mrs. Aug Benschneider, of Littleport, and a great number of relatives and friends.

She was a faithful companion to her husband and a loving mother to her children and will be painfully missed by all.

Funeral services were conducted at the family home and cemetery near Elkport Sunday afternoon by Rev. Franke, of Elkader. A quartette of the German church choir rendered a few selections at the house and grave.
