Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 20 Aug. 1914. Strawberry Point column.

Irvin Moore, son of Mrs. Moore of this place, in company with three friends, one of whom was Dr, W. Boles, took a boat at the boat livery on the Cedar at Cedar Falls last Saturday and rowed up the river some little distance to go in swimming. The two men with them had already gone into the water and were out quite a little distance when Mr. Moore went in. He had scarcely gone out of his depth when suddenly he called out and immediately sank. Dr. Boles, who did not go in but was on shore, called to the others and they immediately went to the rescue but he never arose. At the inquest it developed that the death was not by drowning, as there was no water in the lungs at all. It is believed that the shock of entering the water caused stopping of the heart, which resulted in death. He was an excellent swimmer. Irvin Washington Moore was born at Strawberry Point, Iowa, June 8, 1881. He lived here until about the year 1900, when he left for Cedar Rapids, where he was employed as an electrician for about two years. He afterwards joined the navy, being honorably discharged after two years of service. Since then he has been employed as an electrician here and other places. He was a member of the Baptist church, having joined here January 21, 1911. He died at Cedar Falls, August 8th, 1914, age 33 years, 2 months. He leaves a mother, two sisters and one brother, all of this place. The funeral was held at the residence at 2 o'clock on Monday. The Rev. Otis Spurgeon had charge of the service.
