Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 19 Mar. 1914. Wagner column.

Elling Sonstegaard was born in Nemedal, Norway, 63 years ago and lived in his native country until he reached manhood days, when he immigrated to this country, coming first to Clayton County, where he was engaged in working around for the farmers by the month.

After a few years spent in this way he left and took up land in Cavalier County, North Dakota, where he lived and labored for twenty-four years and built up a good home.

He was married in Dakota to Miss Sigri A. Olson, whose parents lived in this locality, and, with the exception of Mr. Olson, who has been dead for many years, the family is still living here.

Several years ago his health began to fail him and he decided to come back here to live and after a while, a year or so after he came back, he bought the old Engelhardt farm, near St. Olaf. His health improved for a while, but about a year ago he again began to fail and he did not seem to get any better. He lingered along until Feb. 17th. He died peacefully and happy in the belief that he was to be saved and go to Heaven.

Mr. Lanstegaard has, like many of the old settlers, had his share of troubles which come to all. While in Dakota he lost three of his children, all boys, from diphtheria.

Mr. Sonstegaard was a good husband and father, a good neighbor and one who always tried to do his duty to all to the best of his ability.

On February 22nd he was laid at rest in our Norway cemetery and a good many of his friends and neighbors came to take a last look on an old friend and neighbor. Rev. Arveson preached the funeral sermon.

Mr. Sonstegaard leaves to mourn his death his wife and four children, one son and three daughters.

(Note: His surname was spelled both ways in the article, as presented here, one likely a newspaper error.)
