Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 12 Mar. 1914. Volga City Views column.
Death always comes veiled in mystery, or draped in sadness, but in the dispensation of Providence that brings us together, there is an element of peculiar sorrow that is beyond the power of finite beings to fathom. We plan, we watch, we wish, but God decrees otherwise.
Eliza Elvina Adams was born in Volga April 7th, 1897, and passed away at 5 o'clock Sunday evening, March 8th, 1914. During the seventeen years of her life she was tenderly cared for by her parents, brothers and sisters.
Sunday evening we had a new illustration of a very old lesson. You have heard it a thousand times that life is uncertain, but we opened our eyes wide and our hearts beat quicker, when we heard of the manner in which death came to this family. Instantly the sympathy of the community vibrated in the sorrow that came to them and "The God of all grace and comfort" was implored to sustain them in their sad and sudden bereavement. The deceased leaves to mourn her death, her father and mother, Chas. H. Adams and wife, two brothers and three sisters. May God's omnipotent grace soothe their sorrow and give them a bright tomorrow.
Funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church, Rev. Roberts officiating. The sermon was taken from the text John 13, 7. "Jesus answered and said unto him 'What I do thou knowest not now, but thou shalt know hereafter,"
