Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 22 Dec. 1910. Monona column.

Peter L. Grube was the son of Peter and Anna Grube, who lived in Ohio in the first half of the last century. Their son Peter was born at Johnson's Corners, Stark Co., Ohio, May 12, 1840. The first sixteen years of his life were spent in his parents home. In 1856 he went to live with a sister at Plymouth, Ind., where he grew to manhood, and lived till four years after his marriage. In 1866 he brought his family to Clayton Co., Iowa, and settled on a farm south of Monona.

Four years before coming to Iowa he was united in marriage with Miss Susan Blackford, at Bourbon, Ind., Dec. 15, 1862. Into their home was born eight children, of whom seven survive, one, a son, Owe, dying in infancy. The family are now widely scattered, Mrs. Anna Weber, lives at Chillicothe, Mo.; William E., at Weta, S.D.; Mrs. Carrie Hess, at Cresco, Ia,; John F., at Riceville, Iowa; Albert M., at Spokane Wash.; Horace E., Clarion, Iowa.; and Mariette residing with her parents. All the children except Albert were able to be present at the funeral. Other relatives present were a brother of Mrs. Grube, J. M. Blackford, of Delevan, Wis.; a nephew, Howard Grube, of Dubuque, Ia.; a grandson, of Weta, S.D.; and a granddaughter, of Cresco, Ia.

Early last spring a rather rapid failing in health was visible to his family, this increased gradually, necessitating the constant care and watchfulness of wife and daughter. Wednesday forenoon, Dec. 7th, he suffered a partial stroke, this was followed by another at night, and by still a third one the next night, from which he neither regained speech nor rallied, quietly passing away at 2:30 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 11, 1910.

Of his father's family of seven children, only one now survives, a sister, living in Michigan.

When a young man in Indiana, he was converted and became a member of the German Reformed church, and endeavored thereafter to live consistently, with the teachings of Christ, and the hope that was within him. Soon after coming to Iowa he became connected with the fraternal society of Independent Order of Odd Fellows, remaining a member until his death. He was well known as a quiet unassuming man, diligently following a course of rectitude, a good neighbor and careful worker, a man of honor.

The funeral services were held at the M.E. Church, on the afternoon of Dec. 13, followed by interment in the Monona cemetery.
