-New Albin Globe - Mrs. Sophia Pohlmann was born in 1824 in Germany. At the age of 14 she came to America and lived at Cincinnati, Ohio. At that place she married Wm. Heiller who died in 1866; in 1854 she moved from Ohio to Guttenberg, Iowa, where in 1870 she married John Pohlmann and in 1871 they moved to New Albin.
After the death of her second husband she lived with her daughter, Mrs. N. Fitschen. After an illness of about eight months she died on the morning of April 15th.
Mrs. Pohlmann is survived by six children, four boys and two girls, Henry of Brownsville, Minn.; John of Minneapolis, Minn.; August of Guttenberg; William of Bloomfield; Mary of Glabrook and Anna of this place.

-Maiden name is from St. John's Lutheran church (Guttenburg) record of her son John C. Heiller's birth 3/31/1859
-Buried in the New Albin City cemetery (Allamakee county, IA) where her inscription reads: 'Grandma Pohlman May 30, 1824 - Apr 15, 1905' and is found on the gravestone of her daughter Anna Fitschen and husband Nicholas Fitschen. Surname is also found spelled 'Pohlman' in some records.
