Elkader Ewgistter & Argus, Thur., 16 July 1908. Local News columns.
Last Sunday morning Michael Hoover found the remains of Arthur Gurley lying in his field. Gurley was working for Mr. Hoover and failed to return to the house Saturday evening and a search resulted in the finding of his body. The man had evidently been overcome with the heat and passed away. Coroner Beerman was notified and after summoning a jury consisting of Wm. E. Witt, Ole Allen and R. F. Quinn, who after hearing the testimony of D. E. Gleason and Michael Hoover, returned a verdict that death was the result of being overcome by heat. Funeral services were held at the grave in the East Side cemetery Monday, conducted by Rev. Dickey. Deceased had no known relatives.
