Charles Leon Troester was born the son of Charles W. and Ida Mae (Tinkey) Troester on August 18, 1914, in his parent's home in rural Osterdock.

Leon was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Guttenberg, Feb. 19, 1939, by Pastor H.C. Coovert. He also served on St. Paul Church Council for three terms. Leon received his education from the Friedle in Country School. He farmed with his family in rural Osterdock for 34 years until moving to Guttenberg in 1976.

On April 16, 1941, he married Darlene M. Geuder in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Garnavillo by Pastor Alexander Meyer. They were then blessed with two sons, Edward and Larry. After Leon moved to Guttenberg, he worked for Livingston Lumber and built many fences for area farmers. He also mowed lawns, shoveled and blew snow for many people and trimmed many bushes and small trees.

Leon is survived by his wife Darlene of Guttenberg; two sons, Edward (Donna Bodensteiner) Troester of Marion and Larry (Lori) Troester of Chadwick, Ill.; three grandchildren, Jason Troester of Chicago, Ill., Jamie (Russel) Bardell of North Platte, Neb., and Curt (Bobbi) Troester of Knoxville, Ill.; five great grandchildren, Megan, Marisa, Avery Troester of Knoxville, Ill. and Brandon and Addie Jo Bardell of North Platte, Neb.; one sister Lilith Kickbush of Guttenberg and one sister-in-law Janie Troester of Phoenix.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Margarite; one granddaughter, Roxanne and one brother Dwight.

Leon loved his family, grandchildren, his church and many relatives and friends.

Arrangements are being handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 207 S. First St., Guttenberg. The family will receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Guttenberg. Funeral service will be at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Guttenberg at 10 a.m. Thursday with Rev. Harold McMillin officiating. Interment will be at Guttenberg City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, plants, benches, statuary and all other gifts, the family has requested that all memorials be sent to St. Paul's Church in Guttenberg.
