Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 09 Jan. 1908. Guttenberg column.
Joseph Kaiser died of asthma, with which he had been afflicted a number of years, after a weeks confinement to his bed at his residence adjoining that of his sister-in-law, Mrs. John Kaiser, Sunday morning, at 6:30 o'clock. Deceased was born in the grand duchy of Baden, Germany, December 4, 1834, and in 1860 came to America with his brother John, who settled on a farm near East Elkport, and with whom he remained, except during his service in the Civil War, until after the death of his brother, when in 18__ (looks like 1899) he came to Guttenberg. He was a member of the G.A.R. and drew a pension. The funeral took place Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 o'clock. Interment was in the City cemetery. Atty. A. H. Borman spoke at the grave.
