Frances Evelyn Rothmeyer, 93, Monona, Iowa, died Sunday, September 15, 2019, at the Great River Care Center, McGregor, Iowa.

Frances was born on February 26, 1926, rural Monona, Iowa, to Benjamin and Clara (Voss) Sudol. She was united in marriage to Gerald B. Krambeer on January 23, 1947, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Monona, Iowa.

Gerald and Frances farmed on her family farmstead (Sudol) farm until he became ill and passed away in 1962.

Frances was then united in marriage to Charles F. Rothmeyer on April 20, 1963, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Monona, Iowa.

Frances and Charles continued to farm on her family farmstead for 46 years. She enjoyed working on the farm alongside Charles over the years and they received many awards for their dairy farm. They both loved farming and it was their life.

Charles passed away suddenly in 1993. Frances then sold the farmstead and moved to Monona in 1994. After Charles passed, she enjoyed playing cards with her card club friends. She then met her special friend, Willis Johanningmeier and she and Willis spent 15 years of adventurous traveling and companionship.

She was a lady of fashion and always love to be dressed in the latest style even when she was 90 years old. Her family remembers many special times that they stayed on the farm when they were children and she would always make sure there was a delicious breakfast, lunch and supper every day. This was a special treat as they all lived in Dubuque and truly enjoyed the farm stays and visiting with relatives. She let them experience what farm life was all about and the hard work and love that she had for farming.

She loved her 4 fur babies (dogs) on the farm, Chico, Pedro, Bobbi and Tina.

When she was a young child her Mother was diagnosed at a young age with a terminal illness and she took over helping her Father with the farm chores and her younger sister helped with the household chores. When her Dad aged, she was a caregiver to help to care for her Dad. She also enjoyed coming to Dubuque for the holidays and spending time with her family. She was a devoted life-long member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and the St. Patrick Rosary Society. She will be deeply missed by the many people she knew.

Survivors include her niece, Connie Allen; her nephew, Daniel (Yolanda) Schlitter; great-nieces, Kim (Jay Sr.) Gonzales, Carrie (Pat) Boots; great-nephew, Cory Schlitter; step-nephew, Larry (Mary Jo) Gearheart, all of Dubuque; several great-great nieces, great-great nephews and cousins; special cousin Don (Mary Pat) Voss, the Willis Johanningmeier Family and special friend; Tom Moses & family.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Clara (Voss) Sudol; her husbands, Gerald B. Krambeer and Charles F. Rothmeyer; sister and brother-in-law, Lorraine and Paul Gearheart; nephew-in-law, Steve Allen and special friend, Willis Johanningmeier.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 20, 2019, from 5-7 pm at the Leonard – Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Monona, Iowa. Visitation will also beheld one hour before mass time at the church on Saturday.
