Clayton County Register, Thur., 03 Feb. 1927.

Another aged resident of this community, Mrs. Marie Beer, was called to her reward the first hour of Monday morning of this week.

Marie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Schori, was born in Canton Berne, Switzerland, January 25th, 1840. There she spent her childhood days and the years of her youth, then coming to America with her parents in 1858. The family settled in Marion township, east of Elgin, Iowa. Two years later, on January 9th, 1860, Marie was united in marriage with Christian Beer. The first few years of their married life were spent on the farm near Elgin, after which they purchased a farm in Highland township, where they remained until the year 1882, when the family moved to Elkader.

Of the ten children that were born to this union, three boys, Willie, Alfred and Fred, died in infancy, and one daughter, Mollie, Mrs. W. W. Dividson, preceded her mother in death on December 11th, 1919.

Mrs. Beer was of an unassuming, pleasant disposition, an ever faithful wife and a loving mother. The home and family were her domain, where husband and children would experience her most tender and untiring ministrations. She was an ardent admirer of the beauties of nature, and would seek and find recreation with the plants and flowers in house and garden.

After the death of her husband, which occurred March 7th, 1915, Mrs. Beer remained in her home for some years; but of late years she stayed with her daughter, Mrs. Ella Schmidt. There she was at home, and as the infirmities of old age were gradually coming on, the aged mother surely experienced the most tender and affectionate care of the children and grandchildren. It was indeed pleasing and touching to behold how everything centered around mother, and how gratefully she would appreciate all the ministrations of tender love.

Growing more feeble as the years passed by, she began to fail fast of late. On Tuesday, January 25th, she was privileged to celebrate her 87th birthday. From the following day on she slept continually, while life was slowly ebbing away, until on Monday, January 31st, at one o'clock in the morning, without pain or struggle, the loving heart ceased to beat. The frail vessel had entered the harbor of rest, after a life's journey of 87 years and six days.

Her departure is mourned by four daughters and two sons; Evelin, Mrs. Kohler, West Bend, Iowa; William Beer, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Louise, Mrs. Gehring, Wadena, Iowa; Ella, Mrs. Schmidt, Elkader; Anna, Mrs. Ebendorf, Topeka, Kansas; and Edward Beer, of Elkader.

She also leaves twenty grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Anna Kitcher, Minneapolis, Minn., and other relatives and many friends. She was a faithful member of the Evangelical church, and the oldest member of the Frauen-Verein.

"Fold her, O Father, in Thine arms,
And let her henceforth be
A messenger of love between
Our human hearts and Thee."

Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon from the home of Mrs. Ella Schmidt, and from the Evangelical church, with Rev. C. H. Franke officiating. Interment was made in the East Side cemetery.
