Nancy Josephine Anderson, 82, of Waverly, died Sunday, March 3, 2019, at Bartel's Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly.

Nancy (Mista) Anderson was born on April 14, 1936 in Monona, Iowa. She graduated from Monona High School in 1954 after which she attended Wartburg College. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree from Wartburg College with a major in Math and a minor in Physical Education she was hired to teach physical education in the Humboldt, Iowa Public School system.

While teaching in Humboldt she attended Colorado State College during the summers and earned her Master of Arts Degree in Physical Education in 1961. She received her State of Iowa Permanent Professional Certificate from The Board of Public Instruction in 1962. Shortly after receiving her Masters Degree she was hired by Wartburg College to teach Women's Physical Education; a position she held until her retirement. While teaching at Wartburg she continued her education and enrolled at The State University of Iowa (now just the University of Iowa) and earned her Doctorate in Physical Education in 1966.

In 1969 she was married to Wayne Anderson at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Monona, Iowa. They lived in Waverly, Iowa until her death on March 3, 2019.

During her career she published several articles in professional journals. She also designed the playground for St. Paul's Lutheran School in Waverly. In 1985 she was recognized for 25 years of distinguished service to Wartburg College.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Wayne Anderson, of Waverly, and a sister, Martha Hesse of Arlington Heights, Illinois where she lives with her husband Dennis Hesse.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2019, at the Good Shepherd Chapel at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly with Pastor Patricia Shaw officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the chapel. Inurnment was held in the Monona Cemetery, Monona, Iowa.
