Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 13 Feb. 1919. Strawberry Point column.
The funeral services of Mrs. John Teufert occurred at the Lutheran church Monday forenoon, conducted by her pastor, Rev. G. Fritschel.
Mrs. Marie Teufert was born at Wartow, M__kl, Germany, Sept. 6, 1869, and in her baptism received the name of Marie Sophia Dorothea Zengel. In 1884 she was confirmed in her home parish church. She was united in marriage to John Teufert and came to America in 1897, settling near Garnavillo. Two children blessed their home Amanda and Otto. Here they lived for eight years and then moved to their place near Guttenberg. After four years of ill health they sold their farm and went back to the old country, to the place of their first home. Mr. Teufert's health improved and they returned in 1910 settling near Garnavillo. After two years they bought a farm north east of town where they have since resided.
Mrs. Teufert underwent an operation at Iowa City March 2, 1918, and for a time was thought to be improving, but in June she became worse and all that medical skill and tender nursing were without avail. She passed away Saturday evening Feb. 8, at the age of 49 years, 5 months and 2 days.
She leaves to mourn her death, her husband, son and daughter, besides some relatives in Germany and many friends.
