Anton Fliehler was born on Sept. 7th, 1843, at Kapple on the Rhine, Germany. In the year 1850 he emigrated to America with his parents, brothers and sisters and located at Sandusky, Ohio. From there still farther west to Galena, Ill., and lastly to St. Sebald, Iowa. On Oct. 8th, 1867 he was united in holy marriage with Mrs. Eva Buechel Neuenkirk. This union was blessed with 10 children, six sons and four daughters. The sons are Carl, John, William, George, Henry and August, of whom John departed some 17 years ago. The daughters are Mrs. Marie Donath, who departed this life several years ago, Mrs. Caroline Bartels, Mrs. Anna Sheffert and Mrs. Magdlena Oldfather. Some seven years ago the deceased retired from farm work at St. Sebald and made his home at Strawberry Point. The gradual decline of his physical strength and the evident cause of his death was due to cancer of the stomach. From this painful ailment he was delivered on Monday, Dec. 9th, 1913, at 5:30 in the evening. His age was 70 years, 3 months and 2 days. Short services at the church were conducted in both German and English, Rev. Graf had charge of the German service and Rev. Remboldt, of Arlington, had charge of the English service. Burial took place at St. Sebald and Rev. Fuehr had charge of the service at the grave.
