Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 27 Feb. 1913. Elkport and Vicinity column.

Mrs. Christian Plagman

Feb. 5th, 1838 - Feb. 17th, 1913. These are the dates which form the beginning and the close of life of one whose demise is deplored by many relatives and friends of the deceased.

Sophie Dorothea Christiana Lindermann was born at Grambow, Mecklenburg, Schwerin, Germany. When but two days of age she was baptized and in April, 1852, vowed to be true to the faith in the Evangelical Lutheran church in Grambow.

She came to Clayton County, Iowa, with her husband, Heinrich Friederich Christian Rath, to whom she was united in marriage Oct. 9th, 1865. Two sisters and one brother of the deceased are yet living in Germany.

In 1882 the husband died and left her a widow with seven children, of whom two boys and one girl preceded the mother in death.

In 1885 Mrs. Rath was married to Christian Plagman. Six years ago they moved to Elkport to spend the remainder of their days, Mr. Plagman passing away on April 23rd, 1911.

Rev. Foelsch conducted the burial services, as well as the pastoral duties at the bedside of his faithful dying member, and brought great comfort to her, in her last bitter struggle.

Miss Anna Bale and Mrs. H. Foelsch sang two duets, while Miss Irene Foelsch accompanied them on the organ.

Her children were all present at the burial. They are: Mrs. Chas. Ahrens, of Lamont; Mrs. John Schnack, of Elkport; Mr. Chas. Rath, of Lamont; and Mrs. Fred Preussner, of Dundee. Her step-sons who attended were: Henry and Chas. Plagman, of Elkport, and Wm. Plagman, of Guttenberg; and two step-daughters, Mrs. Emma Witte and Mrs. John Sevey, of Edgewood. She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren.

The pallbearers were: Messrs. Henry Ortman, C. Behrens, Sr., John Bals, Wm. Meier, Wm. Koehn and Fred Lundt.
