At his home three miles south of Turkey River, Chas. E. Smith passed away at 4 o'clock a.m., Wednesday, of last week after an illness of eight days duration caused by pneumonia. Deceased was aged about forty years, and was a son of Charles and Mary Smith, early settlers in the southeastern part of this county. He was born and reared on a farm adjoining the one on which he died. He had spent principally his entire life at farming and at the time of his death had become very comfortably situated and in position to enjoy the fruits of his labors. He was united in marriage twelve years ago to Miss Delia Hall and to them four children were born,, two sons and two daughters who are bereft of a kind husband and father. Besides his wife and children he is survived by his mother, three brothers and three sisters. His brother Leason and sisters, Sarah and Teresa, with their mother, reside on the old homestead south of Turkey River, John R, of Goldfield, Nev., Thomas, of Elkpoint, S.Dak., and Mrs. John B. Meyer of Guttenberg. Deceased was a member of Millville Camp M.W.A., and in which order he carried a liberal amount of life insurance. The funeral was held Friday under auspices of the M.W.A. Services were held in the Catholic church at Holy Cross, conducted by Rev. Father Geo. Clark, of Rickardsville, who acted in the absence of Father Nagle, the parish priest. Numerous floral offerings were contributed by members of the M.W.A. and R.N.A., the latter contributing a wreath of lilies.
