Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 26 Dec. 1907. Local News columns.

Clement Thomas Nugent, born Sept. 23, 1897, in Read twp., Clayton Co., Ia., died at the home of his parents in said township Dec. 19, 1907, of peritonitis after an illness of two weeks. All that medical skill and loving aid could do proved of no avail. He leaves his parents, three brothers and two sisters to mourn and deeply feel his untimely death. That those whom God loves die young, seems verified in this case and would prove an admirable text for a worthy tribute to the memory of this departed youth.

He was an exemplary child, always kind and agreeable to those with whom he came in contact, and always ready, polite and anxious to do what he thought was pleasing and right. With a child like simplicity becoming one of his tender years, bright of intellect, mild and reserved in manner, none knew him but to love him. His playmates ever sought him as a companion and they lament his death. He possessed those varied and endearing qualities of mind and heart which marked him as no ordinary child. It is sad indeed that one so young, so amiable and good should die.

None but those who have lost one near and dear to them, can fathom the sorrow of the grief stricken parents, kindred and friends over their irreparable loss. The bereaved parents have the sympathy of the entire community over the loss of their dear departed.

Funeral services occurred Saturday, the 21st inst. at St. Joseph's church, Elkader, Iowa, Rev. Father Reilly officiating, after which the remains were interred in St. Joseph's cemetery.
