In Loving Memory of Willis Jones who departed life April 25, 1908.

Our father dear has left us all,
How desolate our home!
There’s not a spot wheree’er we go
But speaks “he’s gone, he’s gone.”

He is sleeping, sweetly sleeping,
Weary days of pain are o’er.
But he’s found from every sorrow
Resting upon the heavenly shore.

Kind and patient was our loved one,
Gentle as an Angel’s breath;
Sort and tender were the accents
Of that voice now hushed in death.

But the hearts that fondly loved him,
Lonely vigils for him keep,
As we think of that lone hill-side
Where he takes his last, long sleep.

All earthly cares are past for him,
Joy is his portion where
He’ll pray for those he loved on earth,
And wait for their coming there.

With outstretched arms he’ll welcome those
Who cherished him while here,
To that bright home beyond the skies
Where no one sheds a tear.

But may we humbly bow and pray
Submission to God’s will;
And with our inmost spirit say:
The Lord is righteous still.

In God’s great home, from suffering free,
Life’s duties nobly done,
He sings His praises and wears the crown
By Acts of kindness won.

--A Friend.

On Monday, April 27th, occurred the burial of Willis D. Jones, of Cresco, in the family lot in the cemetery by the U.B. church in Wagner township.

The hand of affliction has been resting with unusual severity upon this family during the recent weeks. Some six weeks ago a child aged several months, and who died of pneumonia, was brought to this place for burial. Since that time typhoid fever broke out in the family and on April 16th a son, aged fifteen, dying from that disease, was buried in the family lot and now the father has just been laid to rest, dying from the same cause. At the time of the burial two more of the boys were ill from typhoid, one critically.

Willis D. Jones was born in Wagner township, Clayton county, Iowa, Dec. 19th, 1865, and died at Cresco, Iowa, April 25th, 1908, aged 42 years, 4 months and 5 days. He was the youngest son of David and Johanna Jones. On Dec. 14th, 1888, he was married to Augusta E. Engelhardt. To them were born eight children, three of whom preceded the father to the other life. He leaves a wife and five children, besides three brothers and three sisters.

Mr. Jones grew to manhood on a farm in Wagner township, which he afterward owned and lived on until about two years ago, when he moved to Howard county, Iowa, near Cresco. He was industrious, and though he began life comparatively a poor man, he leaves his family in comfortable circumstances. As a kind husband, affectionate father and good neighbor he will be greatly missed.

Rev. H. Haag, of Monona, who addressed the mourners and friends before the burial of the two children, was in Wisconsin, and the address was given by Rev. B. H. Cheney, pastor of the Monona Congregational church.
