The body of Mrs. Jos. Deifel, whose death occurred at the family home in St. Paul, Wednesday of last week, arrived here Saturday night accompanied by the deceased's husband, Jos. Deifel, daughter Emma and son John and wife. The body lay in state at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Goetz, the latter a sister of deceased, until Monday afternoon, the funeral taking place from the Goetz home at 2:00 o'clock. Interment was made in the City cemetery and was followed there by a large number of old friends and acquaintances of the dead lady. The Kuhlman families and Aug. Dahl and family, of Garnavillo, relatives of Mrs. Deifel, were in attendance.

(Note: An apparent reference to Bertha Deifel, 1856 - 1907, whose gravestone is shown on the IGPP, in Guttenberg City Cemetery.)
