Elkader Register, Thur., 9 May 1907. Volga City Views column.

Mary Probert, the oldest child of James and Euphamia Probert was born in Muir Kirk Ayrshire, Scotland, December 25th, 1843. She came to America with her parents at the age of six years and resided in Pennsylvania about five years. In the spring of 1855 she and her parents came to Highland twp., where they made their home until about 23 years ago, when they moved to Volga, which has been their home ever since.

At a very early age Mary united with the Presbyterian church and not withstanding the affliction which clouded her young and exceptionally bright mind she remained a devout worshiper of her Lord and Master.

About 9:00 o'clock Tuesday morning, April 30th, she passed from the turmoil and sorrowing of earth to that higher and better land. Her mother was called home six years ago and two brothers have also been called to their eternal home.

Mary leaves to mourn an aged mother, two sisters, Mrs. Hall, of Sylvan, Wis., and Euphamia Probert, of Volga, and three brothers, William and John Probert, of Highland, and George Probert, of Sargent, Neb. Thursday, at 2:00p.m., the funeral was held in the Presbyterian church.

Many relatives and friends were present to pay their last tribute of respect to the deceased. Rev. J. N. B. Smith, D. D., preached a very beautiful and touching sermon on the text - Our light afflictions work out for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of Glory.

The choir sang very beautifully "Lead Me gently home, Father" and Lead Kindly Light," A solo, "The Wonderful City" was sung by Miss Nettie Duff.
