Elkader Register, Thur., 25 Apr. 1907. Elkport and Vicinity column.

John C. McMorrow was born in Elk twp., Clayton Co., Iowa, Sept. 12th, 1862, and died April 17th, 1907. He attended school at Elkport and afterwards completed the Normal Course of Study at Dixon College at Dixon, Ill. He taught school in Lee Co., Ill., and Clayton Co., Ia. He then took up the study of law at Iowa City and graduated from the law school of that city and was admitted to the bar in 1892. He was engaged in active practice until the spring of 1904, when he was suddenly stricken with pulmonary hemorrhages. He then went to Colorado for the benefit of his heath, where he remained until his sister died Nov. 17th, 1905, since which time he has been at home, and confined to his room since October 4th, 1906. He was preceded in death by one brother, who died in infancy, also his sisters, Tressa, who died in 18__, and Mary, who died in 1905. He is survived by his father and four sisters, viz: Mrs. Geo. Flynn, Mrs. Dyer Hall, Mrs. D. C. Collins and Mrs. Josie Waterman. Johnny, as he was favorably known, was a tireless worker in his chosen profession and it has been said by those who are in a position to know that there were few men that were better posted in the law than John C. McMorrow, and if he had been permitted to live he would have become a prominent lawyer. John C. McMorrow's integrity could never be questioned, and it was his honest and open methods of doing business that gained him so many friends. The funeral services were held in the Catholic church last Friday morning at 10 o'clock, Rev. Father Minogue officiating. Interment at the Elkport Catholic cemetery, The funeral was one of the largest held in Elkport and the many friends extend their sympathy to the bereaved family.
