At the old homestead in Mallory twp., on Wednesday, Feb. 13th, occurred the death of Charles Schrunk at the age of 79 years, __ months and 2_ days. Deceased was born in Off_an, Wurtemberg, Germany, Sept. 1_th, 1827. He came to _______ Oct. 24th, 1854, when 26 years old, settling on the farm in Mallory twp. where he resided until 1902, when he went to Dubuque for medical ___. Returning home again he ______ failed until he peacefully passed away.
On Feb. 17th, 18__, he was united in marriage to Ros__ ______r and to them were born twelve children, nine of whom, with the wife and mother, survive. The children are Gus, of Mallory township: Fred, of Bagley, Wis.: William, of Mallory township; Joseph, of La Crosse; John, of Edgewood; Mrs. Wm. Merld, of Dyersville; Mrs. Dennis McGrath and Mrs. Wm. Carl, of Dubuque; and Mrs. __hn Strader, of Colesburg. He also leaves to mourn his death one brother and three sisters, Francis, of Mapleton, Ia.; Mrs. Aug. Stabler, of New Vienna, Iowa; Mrs. Joe Schrunk, of Osterdock, Mrs. E. Wiershing, of Mankato, Minn., and twenty-nine grandchildren.
If the deceased had lived three days, to Feb. 17th, he would have been able to celebrate his golden wedding. Mr. Schrunk was a devoted member of the Catholic church and took pride in bringing up his children in that faith.
The funeral services were held in St. Mary's church at Guttenberg, Saturday morning, Rev. Brinkman officiating. The internment was made in the old Catholic cemetery at that place.
