Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 9 Mar. 1916. Goshen column.
This community was shocked and saddened by the accident which happened to little Clyde Meyers. While Mrs. Meyers was preparing the evening meal on Monday, she poured a teacup full of grease from the frying pan and set it on the kitchen cabinet and turned back to the stove to stir some flour in the frying pan when she heard the little fellow scream. When she turned around she found that he had emptied about one-half of the contents of the cup of hot grease into his mouth and down over his chin and neck. Dr. Palmer was summoned at once but his injuries were beyond medical aid, as he had swallowed considerable of the hot liquid. He died on Tuesday evening at about 8 o'clock in his mother's arms. Clyde Russell, the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Meyers, was born December 11th, 1913, and died February 29th, 1916, being 2 years, 2 months and 18 days of age. He leaves to mourn his loss his father, mother and three brothers, who will miss this bright little sunbeam who flitted across their path for a brief time, then passed on to that brighter and better world, where he is waiting and beckoning for those loved ones to come. The funeral was held in the church on Thursday, March 2nd, at 2 p.m., Rev. C. A. Baldwin officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Meyers have the sympathy of the entire community.
