Catherine Geraghty was born in County Mayo, Ireland, in 1823, and died at the home of her son John, east of town, at the ripe old age of 93 years. In 1852 she immigrated to America with her parents, settling in Ohio, where in the same year she was married to Patrick Kielty, with whom she shared life's pleasures and pains, for over fifty years. In the spring of 1855 they settled in Clayton County, living in this community continuously till the time of her death. Her husband preceded her in death in September, 1907. She was the mother of eight children, five of whom survive her: Michael and James, of Rockwell, Iowa; Richard and John, of Monona, and Mrs. J. H. McCarthy, of Rockwell. The funeral was held at St. Patrick's Church in Monona, on Monday, February 29th, conducted by Rev. Father Hogan. Burial in the Catholic Cemetery.
