Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 27 Apr. 1916. Local News column.
A mysterious tragedy occurred at the home of Louis Rierson near Gunder Saturday. Miss Gertrude Nass, a young lady who had been assisting Mrs. Rierson, rose early to begin her daily duties. A little later she was missed and after a thorough search it was noticed that the cover over a cistern was displaced and her body was found in the cistern. The coroner's jury gave the verdict that she came to her death by accidental drowning. Miss Nass was but seventeen years old, and leaves to mourn her mother and two sisters and many other relatives and friends. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from the Norwegian church.
