Martha Knudson, of Wagner township, is no more. For several years her health had been poor and on October 29th she passed away, receiving burial in the Norway Church cemetery on November 1st.
Mrs. Knudson was born October 16th, 1851, at Nass, Hedmarken, Norway, but had lived most her life in Clayton County, Iowa. Her parents were Halvor and Eli Tovsen. She was one of seven children, namely: Thor, Lars, Hans, Mrs. Crary, Mrs. Sandagar and Miss Anna Tovsen, who so faithfully took care of her sister, Mrs. Knudson, during her last illness.
Martha Tovsen was married July 24th, 1872, to Herbrand Knudson, who died two and a half years ago. Their marriage was blessed by three children, Henry, Knudt and Emma, the latter dying about ten years ago.
Mrs. Knudson was very patient during her sickness. She clung to the promises held out in the Word of God to faithful and believing sinners. Her pastor visited her several times during her illness, read to her, prayed with her and administered the Lord's supper. She appreciated very much the means of grace. When the last struggle came she was fully conscious and fully aware of the approach of dissolution, but she recommended herself unto Him who says "born unto me,", and fell asleep.
Martha Knudson has left her comfortable home here, but we do believe that she has gone to the home above that Jesus has prepared for all His children. That which is our loss is Martha Knudson's gain.
