Joseph W. Davis was born in Scranton, Lackawanna County, Pa., August 29th, 1840, and died November 5th, 1916, at his home in Manchester, Iowa. In his boyhood he came with his parents to DeKalb County, Ill. Here he resided until 1865. On September _0th, 1863, he was married to Miss Margaret Morgan. Two years later they moved to Iowa, where he spent the remainder of his life in Clayton and Delaware counties. His wife passed away on June 2nd, 1899. One daughter, Charlotte, died April 3rd, 1907. He is survived by four sons and three daughters, William and B. J. Davis, of Edgewood; Oscar, Mary and Gladys, of Strawberry Point; Albert M., of Montana, and Mrs. Lon Sheppard, of Red Oak. He leaves two grandchildren, Harold and Marion Davis, of Edgewood, also two brothers and one sister, B. B. Davis, of Strawberry Point, R. H. Davis, of Montana, and Mrs. Elizabeth Grist, of Belle Plaine, Kan. In August, 1907, he was married to Mrs. Bell, who survives him. The funeral services were held at the home Wednesday at 10 o'clock, after which the remains were brought here for interment in the family lot.
