Mrs. Wm. Harding passed away Sunday morning, May 28th, 1916, at her home in Elkader, at the age of seventy-seven years, after an illness of about four months.
Catherine Finnegan was born in Liston, Ireland, on Christmas Day, 1838, and came to America with her parents in 1846, locating at Darlington, Wis., and on July 7th, 1869, was united in marriage to Wm. Harding.
They then moved to Clayton County, living at Mederville for about eight years and later moving to the farm about two miles east of Elkader, where the deceased made her home until about a year ago, when she moved to Elkader and has resided here since. Her husband passed away about twenty years ago.
She was the mother of seven children, three dying in infancy and four surviving, viz: Michael, on the farm; Mrs. James Downey, of Garnavillo; Mrs. Henry Ploog, of this city, and Dan, who has always made his home with his mother. She is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Eleanor Budlong, of Marrinette, Wis.; Mrs. Patrick Cassidy and Miss Bridget Finnegan, of Darlington, Wis., and four grandchildren, Marguerite, Lawrence and Wilson Downey and Catherine Ploog.
The funeral services were held on Wednesday morning at 9:00 o'clock at St. Joseph's Church, Rev. Father Hethrington, of Volga, officiating, with interment in the Catholic cemetery.
