Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 13 Aor. 1911.

Mrs. Maranda Snedigar, relict of the late Fielding Snedigar, and one of the oldest residents of this county, died at her home in this city Wednesday morning, April 12th, at seven o'clock. She would have been eighty-seven years old on May 5th next. Her death was due to troubles incident to advanced age.

Miranda B. Hayes was born in Montgomery, Missouri, May 5, 1824, and was a great-granddaughter of Daniel Boone. She was married to Fielding Snedigar in 1841. They came to Clayton County in 1851, Mr. Snedigar being employed in a sawmill and later engaged in the mercantile business, until 1868 when they settled on a farm in Fayette county, which was their home until their removal to Elkader in 1882. Mr. Snedigar died in 1888. Five of their children are living, as follows: James Monroe Snedigar, Mrs. H. C. Stearns, Mrs. C. S. Crandall, George W. Snedigar and Mrs. Marcella Teutsch.

Mrs. Snedigar was a woman well fitted to be the helpmate of a pioneer, being strong in character and resourceful, and possessed of the virtues of the wives and mothers of those earlier days. She was devoted to husband and children and by them held in the deepest affection. No loftier tribute can be paid any woman than such testimony to her womanhood.

The funeral will be held at the home Friday afternoon at two o'clock. Rev. Franke will conduct the services.
