Mrs. Sophia Mary Walke was born on October 8, 1868, in Jefferson township and was confirmed in the Lutheran church at Ceres on April 30, 1882. In February, 1887, she was united in marriage to Fred H. Mueller, of this place. They took up their abode on a farm north of town, at which place she passed away on the evening of March 29th. She had been suffering for some time with rheumatism and heart trouble, the later being the cause of her demise.

She leaves her husband, one daughter, Selma, and three sons, Elmer, Albert and Clarence, all at home, besides her aged mother, who lives at Guttenberg, and three brothers and three sisters: Mrs. Mary Schroeder, of Allen, Neb.; Mrs. Maggie Brandtman, of Luana; Herman, August and Fred Walke and Alvina Herboldsheimer, of Guttenberg.

Funeral services were held at St. Peter's church on Saturday, Rev. Bosholm officiating. The remains were laid to rest in the family lot in the new cemetery.
