Mrs. Caroline Schmidt, nee Gless, was born March first, 1843, in Luhmannsdorf, Greifswold, Germany. In 1866 she was married to Karl Schmidt. To this union five children were born, three dying in infancy. In 1885, in company with her husband and daughter, they came to America to join their son, who had gone to this country a year before. They settled in Garnavillo, where they lived for six years, after which they took up their abode on a farm west of town, upon which the family lived until November last, when they moved to town. On March 16 she suffered a paralytic stroke, death resulting on Tuesday morning March 20, at the age of sixty-eight years and nineteen days. Besides the sorrowing husband, she leaves one daughter, Mrs. Minnie Fascher, and one son, William, of Farmersburg, besides a brother in Germany. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, Rev. Braun officiating.
