Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 18 May 1911. Monona column.

Marie Dorothea Friederika Schierholz, nee Miller, was born August 9th, 1870, in Farmersburg Twp., Clayton Co., Iowa. On October 16, 1870, she was christened by the late Rev. Seifert, of Clayton Center. After attending school and receiving due instruction, the deceased was solemnly confirmed by Rev. Zimmerman, March 29th, 1885. On May 25, 1899, she was married to Henry Schierholz. Of her richly blessed and very happy marriage with Henry Schierholz four children were born, of which two preceded her in death in infancy. The last year the departed felt better than ever before and lived at last in good hope. But alas on Thursday morning, Death, the silent reaper, came suddenly to herself in order of God, to take out of this world the soul of our deceased sister. Unsuspectingly and joyfully she arose that morning at about 6 o'clock and just about one hour later, the Almighty God, called her from this earth to his heaven, finishing her pilgrimage in this world so full of trials and troubles. The deceased was 40 years, 8 months, 3 weeks and 4 days old. Thus a happy, (several words blurred) ended on earth. She leaves to mourn her loss besides many sorrowing friends and neighbors, her husband and two children, Nelta and Alwin Schierholz, her father, Charles Miller, her parents-in-law, Herman Schierholz and wife, a sister, Mrs. Henry Schrader and family, two brothers, William and Robert Miller, and their wives, two brothers-in-law, Arthur Wirkler and Elzer Schierholz and families, a granduncle, 3 uncles, 4 aunts and many others. The funeral was held at St. Paul's German Lutheran church at 2 p.m., May 7, Rev. Otto Wappler officiating.
