Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 15 June 1911.

Mrs. Carrie O. Wald died at her home in Wagner township, June 9th, 1911, at the age of 56 years, 9 months and 10 days. She was born in Clayton County, Aug. 29, 1854, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Knut O. Blinamoen, who were among the early settlers of this county, living in Marion township for many years on the farm now owned by Joe Lantz. Mrs. Wald was the eldest of a family of seven children, all of whom are living in this county. She is also survived by her father, who is 85 years old.

On May 2nd, 1871, Carrie O. Blinamoen was united in marriage to Ole O. Wald, of Wagner township, and who shortly after their marriage bought his father's farm and took care of his parents the remainder of their lives. The happy young couple started out in life with bright prospects, both of them being hardworking and saving, they soon prospered. In the course of time they built up a handsome home and all went well for many years. Seven children were born to them, three boys and four girls: Henry, of Harvey, N.D.; Mrs. Emma Embretson, of St. Olaf, Ia.; Mrs. Mollie Larson, living on the old farm; Knudt, of Cut Bank, Mont.; Mrs. Johanna Bersheim, of St. Olaf, Iowa, and Nettie, who has been staying with her mother. The youngest of the family, Blaine, died at the age of six years.

Mr. and Mrs. O. Wald were among our most respected and esteemed neighbors and friends, and had a way of making everybody feel welcome to their hospitable home, and there are many of us who can look back through the long years and testify to the good times and social gatherings that we had there.

All went well and life seemed to hold all happiness for them, but it was not to be, for on May 10th, 1897, our good and kind-hearted neighbor, Ole O. Wald, died suddenly after but two days of sickness. What a shock it gave us all to hear that he was gone, of the death of the husband and father at the age of (looks like 46 or 48) years, just in the prime of life. It came as a thunder-bolt to the wife, who was then left, and who had to take up the work and worry alone. It was a terrible blow to all their future plans, but being a brave woman she took up her burden and with a cheerful heart and willing hands, went to work and did the best she could. Her trials and troubles during the last years of her life in caring for her home and family were not always light, but she met them with a determination to overcome them and succeeded. She was beginning to take things a little easier when, without warning, she had a severe stroke of paralysis on Jan. 6th, 1911, and since that time has been helpless, but we are glad to say that she received all the care and attention that she needed and her children did all they could to help her. She never overcame the first stroke, although she could talk, and for a while it seemed as though she would get better, but on the morning of June 6th she had another stroke, from which she never recovered consciousness, death relieving her on Friday, June 9th.

Before closing these few remarks I wish to add a little more. There are very few of us, her friends and neighbors, who have not, at some time during sickness and troubles that comes to all, more or less, been helped out by Mrs. Wald, where help was needed. The sight of her cheerful face and the way she took hold of the work like a trained nurse was something wonderful., and she will be sorely missed. Her place is hard to fill. She has gone from us but we will never forget our good and kind neighbor for all that she has done. She was a good, sincere, Christian woman and died in the belief that she was to be saved and safe to enter the kingdom of Heaven.

On Monday afternoon, June 12th, She was laid to rest beside her husband, and a large gathering of relatives and friends were there to take a last look at the familiar face that all knew so well. Here we bid her the last farewell and thank her for all she had done. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Arveson.
