Clayton County Register, Thur., 29 Dec. 1932.
MONONA: John Grady, Sr., aged eighty-five, died Wednesday morning at three o'clock after an illness of only a few days duration. He was apparently on the road to recovery Monday but on Tuesday became ill again. Funeral services were held Saturday morning at nine o'clock from his late home to St. Patrick's Catholic church, the Rev. Father Luke Donlon read the mass and said the prayers in the parish cemetery where he was laid beside his wife and daughter.
Mr. Grady was the father of five sons and five daughters; four sons, Edward and Michael Grady of Monona, Patrick Grady of Harlowtown, Montana, and Joseph Grady of St. Paul, and four daughters, Mrs. P. J Ryan and Miss Kate Grady of Monona, Mrs. Elizabeth Phillips of Harlowtown, Montana, and Mrs. Agnes O'Brien of Waukon. Mrs. Grady and a daughter, Rose, and a son, Thomas, preceded him in death. Mr. Grady was a hard working man, ambitious and could work as few men his age could work. He had many friends as he possessed a keen sense of humor. His children and grandchildren always loved to visit him. His neighbors and members of his church will miss him as he always attended mass regularly.
