Mrs. L. P. Rollins died December 1st at 12:45 a.m. in Farmersburg township, following an illness of five days.
Lura Ann Reed was born March 18, 1852, and at the time of her death had reached the age of 80 years, eight months and 15 days. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Reed and was born in Farmersburg township, where she spent her entire life. She received her education in the schools of her own township and September 12, 1877 was married to L. P. Rollins. Two children were born to this union, Mrs. M. O. Russow of St. Olaf and Charles Rollins, at home, both of whom survive.
Mrs. Rollins was a teacher in the Mecklenberg school at the age of 17 and she and her mother conducted the first post-office in Farmersburg township back in the days when a stage coach operated between McGregor and Elkader. The post-office was known as the Reed office but later was moved to Farmersburg.
Mrs. Rollins had lived all her life on the farm where she died. This farm she operated with the assistance of her son Charles.
Besides her two children she is survived by five grandchildren: LeRoy Russow of St. Olaf; Mrs. Hazel Russow Gibbs of Clayton; Mildred Russow, a nurse in St. Luke hospital at Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Murial Russow Beaty of Rockford, Ill.; and Joyce Russow of St. Olaf.
She was a member of the Methodist church and services were held for her at the late home Saturday, Dec. 3d, with interment in the Giard cemetery with the Rev. Mr. Feller of Giard officiating.
Those from away who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. W. Russow of Dubuque; Dr. and Mrs. Tapper of Monona; Wm. Paige and three sisters of Highland township.
