Clayton County Register, Thur., 7 July 1932.

Adolph Elvers Sr. was born May 24, 1860, in the province of Hanover Germany. He grew to manhood there, being confirmed in the Lutheran church of which he was a faithful member. At the age of 20 years he entered military training for three years. After which, in the year 1887, he migrated to America, coming to Clayton county, Iowa, in 1889.

On Feb. 24th, 1891, he was married to Mary Dittmer of Cox Creek. To this union six children were born, five sons and one daughter, namely: O. H. Elvers of Strawberry Point, Iowa; Leopolt Elvers, dying in infancy; Mrs. Jos. Winkler of Elkader, Iowa; Adolph and Arthur Elvers, twin sons, of Elkader.

The largest part of their happy married life was spent on a farm near Osborne, Iowa, until in 1921 they retired and moved to Elkader, Iowa, residing there two and one-half years at which time his beloved wife passed away. Since that time he has lived with Joseph Winkler and family who have done all that was possible to make a pleasant home for him in his remaining years.

He passed away suddenly on July 5th, 1932, at 6 a.m. of heart failure.

He leaves to mourn his sudden death: O. H. Elvers of Strawberry Point, Iowa; Mrs. Joseph Winkler of Elkader, Iowa; Val. Elvers, Detroit, Michigan; Arthur and Adolph Elvers Jr. of Elkader; five grandchildren and three sisters, one living in London, England, and two in Germany, besides a host of friends.
