Clayton County Register, Thur., 11 Feb. 1932. Volga column.

Nellie Hannah Davis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Clay Davis, was born on August 19, 1868, in Volga, Iowa. When only a few years old she moved to a farm with her parents. Her early education was in a rural school, while later she attended the high school of Volga and the Teacher's Institute in Elkader, Iowa. After that she taught a few years in some rural schools of this vicinity.

At the age of 21 she was united in marriage to John N. Probert on September 4, 1889. To this union four daughters were born, _____, Myrtle, Doris and Ruth. She always lived in the same community until the time of her death. Until four years ago she enjoyed fairly good health. Since then she has been suffering as a diabetic and was almost under constant care of a physician. On Saturday, Jan. 30, she was stricken with paralysis from which she never rallied and quietly died on Tuesday afternoon, February 2, 1932, having attained the age of 63 years, 5 months and 14 days. Mrs. Probert was a kind neighbor and friend, always willing to help where ever and when ever she could. By her readiness to serve the needs of those about her she has gained many a friend and her departure is grievously felt by the entire community.

Since her girlhood she was affiliated with the Presbyterian church of Volga of which she has been a loyal and faithful supporter. She assisted in organizing the Good Will society some years ago in which she was a faithful worker. She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Walter Rothlisberger of Elgin, Iowa, and Mrs. Walter Roys of Volga; one brother Elmer S. Davis of La Harpe, Kansas; a niece, Mrs. Melvin Gregorson of Volga; five grandchildren and a few other distant relatives.

Funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church at Volga Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. Fikse, the local pastor officiating. Interment was in Hill Crest cemetery.
