Johann Carl August Kregel died at his home in Postville Thursday, Feb. 4, 1932, aged 73 years and 23 days. He was born in Germany in Gross Fahlenwerder in Prussia, January 11, 1859. His parents were Gottlieb and Julia Kregel (nee Bergeler) and he was the second youngest in a family of nine children. March 8, 1876 he emigrated to America, arriving at Lansing, Iowa, March 28th. On Feb. 21, 1884, he was married to Maria Ziemann, and to this union six children were born, one of whom, a son, Freddie, died in early childhood. Besides his widow, he leaves to mourn his departure the surviving children, Mrs. Emilie Borcherding of Guttenberg, William Kregel of Luana, Mrs. Amy Renne of Cedar Rapids, and Louise and Harvey at home; also five grandchildren and one brother, Fred Kregel, of Waukon. He was a prosperous Grand Meadow township farmer for 35 years and in 1919 he retired from active farming and moved to Postville, which has been the family home since. He was a kind and loving husband and father, a good neighbor and friend, unassuming and sympathetic, and was held in high esteem by all who knew him. He was a Faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran church and for a time was a member of the church council. The funeral was held from St. Paul's Lutheran church at two o'clock Monday afternoon, Feb. 8th. Dr. R. B. Garten officiated. Interment was made in Grand Meadow cemetery.
