Funeral services for Rudolph William Engelhardt, 71, were held Saturday afternoon, August 15, from the home in Monona at 1:45 p.m. to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran church at two o'clock with the Rev. R. C. Schlueter officiating. Burial was in the city cemetery.

Mr. Engelhardt died suddenly Tuesday, August 11, when he was stricken with a heart attack while returning from a fishing trip.

His body was found by Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Rose not far from his car near Beulah Falls, who went in search of him when he failed to return home at noon. During the last seven years he had been in declining health.

He was born a son of Henry Engelhardt and Reka, nee Schmidt, at St. Olaf, Nov. 9, 1881. He was married to Amelia Suddendorf, Jan. 25, 1905. She died in Sept. 2, 1906. He was married to Martha Bentien at Monona Jan. 26, 1910, by the Rev. O. Wappler.

For the past 25 years they lived in Monona, where they had retired after farming at various places in Clayton county. He had served as custodian of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran church for several years and was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Brotherhood.

He was preceded in death by his first wife; a daughter Adeline, who died of burns, July 4, 1930; his parents; four brothers, Charley, twin brothers, and William; and three sisters, Minnie at three years of age; Mrs. Arthur (Amanda) Schmidt, and Mrs. Henry (Hattie) Jarms. In addition to his wife he is survived by a son, Edwin, of Castalia, of his first marriage; a son, Melvin, of Elgin, of the second marriage; one sister, Mrs. Ed. (Emma) Kurth of Farmersburg; three brothers, Albert of Farmersburg, Frank of St. Olaf, and Arno of Postville; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers were: Fred Kruse, Victor Meyer, Merlin Flesner, Hugo Blietz Sr., and Clarence Meyer.

Pallbearers were: Harold Jarms, Gilbert Rose, Wendell Engelhardt,Charles Fick, Vernis Engelhardt, Orville Engelhardt, Lemford Bentien, and Elmer Engelhardt.
