Mrs. Sarah McLaughlin, mother of Dr. A.B. Hanner*, died at the residence of her son, in Elkader, on the 9th of this month.
She was a good Christian woman, and displayed her virtues through her everyday life, and although she was quite old seemed very active until a short time before her death.
She was born in Antrim, Ireland, in the year 1799, and came to this country in 1842. And after having lived to the good old age of seventy nine she was laid to rest far away from her native soil, which she left when quite a young woman.

Note: Sarah McLaughlin is enumerated on the 1856 Iowa census living in Boardman twp. She is elusive on the 1860 & 1870 census. Presumed burial is in the East Side cemetery, but confirmation is needed.
*The son is Alexander B. Hanna who was a physician, born Ireland & enumerated on the 1870 U.S. census Boardman twp. (P.O. Strawberry Point)& is living in Elkader per the 1876 Physician Directory for Clayton co.
