An only child of Charles and Caroline Hein, of Postville, died on the 9th of August, of croup diphtheria. Little Carl was an interesting child, and his death a great glow to his sorrow stricken parents, who have the sympathy of many friends in this sad calamity.
The baby face will smile no more,
His eyes are closed for ay,e
And little Carl’s sweet voice is heard
No more from day to day.
‘Tis eer thus through life, we learn
To love and then to lose,
The more they warm our throbbing hearts
The ore we feel the bruise.
God help these hearts to bear this stroke,
To feel, through all the years
That come to them, that Carl is safe
And free from toils and tears.

Added by S. Ferrall:
Carl's parents were Carl Henry (d. 1899) & Louisa 'Caroline' (d. 1922) Hine. Both are buried in the Postville cemetery, Area D. More than likely, little Carl is also buried in that cemetery.
