Funeral services for Ellen Fritz were held Friday, August 1, 1980, at the Garden City United Methodist (Brick) church in Monona, with Rev. Carroll Brown officiating. Pallbearers were Alvin Gilster, Abner Sanger, Segal Sanger, Leo Vlazny, Paul Buerger, Victor Trappe, Herb Trappe and Ben Marovets. Burial was in Monona City Cemetery, Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona, was in charge of services.
Ellen Amanda Fritz, the daughter of John and Mary (Hupfer) Bernhard, was born November 5, 1883, at Giard. She received her education at the Giard school and Junior College at Mason City. She was a member of Garden City United Methodist Church.
In March of 1908 she was united in marriage to Edward J. Fritz. To this union three children, Dolly Laverne, Audrey and Norbert, were born. She and her husband farmed, and after his death, she continued to make her home at the farm with her son until her health failed.
She has resided at the Good Samaritan Center of Postville for the past ten years. She died Tuesday, July 29, 1980, at the Community Memorial Hospital in Postville, having reached the age of 96 years, 8 months and 24 days.
Preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Clarence and Willis; her husband, Edward, who died in 1960; and a daughter, Dolly Laverne.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Art (Audrey) Wickersham, Cedar Rapids; a son, Norbert, Monona; two grandchildren, Tom Lehman, Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Kenneth (Judy) Emmons, Bloomington, Ill.; five great-grandchildren, Jeffery, Andrea, Jennifer Lehman and Shellie and Steven Emmons; and other relatives and friends.
