NORTH BUENA VISTA, Iowa - Werner Bendixen Jr., 62, of North Buena Vista, died Saturday, March 22, 2003, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Kramer Funeral Home, Holy Cross, where friends may call after 1 p.m. The Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, is in charge of arrangements.

He was born on June 6, 1940, on a farm near Wyoming, son of Werner Sr. and Margaret (Osterkamp) Bendixen. He married Joan Johnson on Oct. 7, 1960, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Dubuque.

He farmed most of his life near the Baldwin and Maquoketa areas. In 1983, they moved to Hopkinsville, Ky., for 10 years then moved back to North Buena Vista. Werner loved his kids, grandkids, brothers and sisters and spending time with his friends. He loved flea markets and garage sales, where he collected Coca Cola Bears, coins, eagles, puzzles and old Western shows.

Werner will be sadly missed.

Surviving are his wife, Joan; two daughters, Gina (Troy) Ludovissy, of North Buena Vista, and Tracy (Abe Stoner) Kane, of North English; a son, Werner (Ben) III, of Holy Cross; six grandchildren, Eric, Jessica, Lee, Jeffery, Stephanie and Joe, whom he loved dearly; six sisters, Helen Fall and Chrystal (Steve) Klatt, both of Olin, Anna Marie Entsminger, Sylvia Rickles and Margaret Stickley, all of Anamosa, and Evelyn (Jim) Heinsius, of Cedar Bluff; three brothers, Hans (Shirley) Bendixen, of Clarence, Richard (Arlene) Bendixen, of Amber, and Chris (Carol) Bendixen, of Olin; and special friends, Ruth and Lavern Schafer, of Anamosa.

A special thanks to Cindy and Paul Ludovissy, the Holy Cross Fire Department and the guys that came to help.
